Tornado Week
Tornado Wind Speed Scale
Because there are few actual measurements of tornado wind speed, their intensity it estimated through after-the-fact examination of the damage that they produced. Tornadoes are then classified according to the Enhanced Fujita Scale. The EF wind speeds are estimates of the strongest tornado wind gusts occurring at 10 meters (about 33 feet) above ground.
EF0: 65 – 85 mph
EF1: 86 – 110 mph
EF2: 111 – 135 mph
EF3: 136 – 165 mph
EF4: 166-200 mph
EF5: over 200 mph
